Agricultural Science

The Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Degree in Agricultural Science is a four-year degree
programme designed to acquaint students on modern and technological approaches to various
operational branches of Agricultural studies, especially in the field of Horticultural, Fisheries,
Forestry, Agricultural Engineering and Other allied branches of learning, driven within the
scope of the Entrepreneurship framework and wrapped in self-led commercial farming,
extension work, permaculture and other industrial related careers expected to emerge from
the study of this programme, however, with an in-depth focus to contribute significantly to
the economic growth and employment opportunities in Sierra Leone.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Attaining a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Agricultural Science study, students are
required to complete a hundred and twenty (120) credit hours. Which consists of eight (8)
foundational Courses, made-up of Communication skills of six (6) credit hours, General
Education of nine (9) credit hours and Computer Education of (9) credit hours, summing up
to twenty-four (24) credit hours of requirement, which is accompanied by (32) departmental
courses, holding a ninety-six (96) credit hours as a requirement to graduate as honours in
BSc. Degree in Agricultural Science.

Eligibility criteria for admission

  1. The students holding General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) ‘O’ Level, must have five (5) credit passes including English and Mathematics.
  2. If the students hold West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), then the candidates must have credit passes in six (6) subjects and three of these six subjects must be core subjects including English language and Mathematics.

COURSE CREDITS TRANSFER POLICY

Central University accept credit transfers from accredited and recognized colleges or Universities on a case-by-case basis. However, credit transfer from such colleges and universities cannot exceed sixty (60) credit hours, relying on courses that are different from departmental courses yet relevant to the field of study, which may be considered for transfer. Therefore, students with credit transfer requests will be required to contact the office of the Registrar to establish the procedure in fulfilling such requirements at the departmental or faculty level.
